Reverend John Alexander Thompson und die „Johnny Thompson Singers“, eine der prominentesten Gospelgruppen Amerikas, sind in den ganzen Vereinigten Staaten zusammen mit den meisten Gospelgrößen aufgetreten; sie gastierten überall, von der „Met“ in Philadelphia über die Constitutional Hall in Washington D.C., bis hin zur Music Hall in Detroit.

Reverend Johnny Thompson ist sowohl Mitglied der NCGCC (National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses) als auch der GMW (Gospel Music Workshop of America des Reverend James Cleveland). Zudem ist er der F.P.I. Music Director der First Baptist Holiness Church of God of the Americas und selbst ein Prediger des Evangeliums.
Er wirkt als zweiter Seelsorger in The Open Door F.B.H. Church in Philadelphia.

Johnny Thompson hat für eine Vielzahl von Chören, Gruppen und Solosängern gespielt, gesungen und Aufnahmen gemacht. Allein die Auftritte mit seiner Gruppe brachten ihn um die ganze Welt.
